"How many times d' Ah have t' repeat it? NAE credit in mah bleedin' pub!" the hare roared, as he sent the protesting fox sprawling into the street with a well-aimed kick to the rump. "An' don't come back, if ye dinnae want a new coat o' tar 'n' feathers!" he yelled, as the offender scarpered around the street corner and vanished from sight.
Shaking his head, Bartholomew strode back into the dusky shadows of the Green Dragon Tavern, making his way back to the bar. He settled down on the ancient stool behind his desk, and returned to going over the tabs. All things considered, the day was going well, and even if some of the customers refused to pay their dues, years as a barman had allowed him to discover ways and ways of substituting payment. Information, manual labour, and goods were all acceptable. But anyone who came swaggering in, intending to take anything they could for free, was guaranteed to find themselves in very hot water indeed.
A careful cough interrupted his train of thought. He looked up sharply, and allowed his face to relax into a guardedly friendly grin. "Ah hear a lotta things in this business, but naeb'dy tole me nothin' 'bout you bein' back in town. Now then, am Ah right in thinkin' ye didn't jsut come over fer a drink an' a how-d'-ye-do....Captain?
