Looking for work

[Khana]

Khana looked up to the stars as well. There weren't as many out as he thought there would be, and he was a bit surprised.
"What do you mean by I'll get a little of both here?" he asked.
Suddenly, in the distance, the sound of a thunder clap resounded through the night air, causing Khana to jump from his seat.

"What do you mean by I'll get a little of both here?" he asked.

Blade looked back down from the stars at Khana. "Well Matey...We've had beast that have been on this ship since I can remember...Some of em died of old age...Scarred up pretty good but never took an injury that took their life...Others Have died by simple sword and goring...so either way...if your on this ship...you'll die either way..." he said waving his paws about as he spoke. "Tha' Skipp...It's hard to say how he'll go...Either he'll take it too far and get flogged by somebeast...or he'll do it himself...I dunno...he's reckless...but no other beast could do what he does..."

As the Thunder clapped and Khana jumped, Blade gave a small laugh. "Easy Matey...Its a good ways off...Sound travels fast on these waters...Its always a little farther than it seems..." He said turning around making a course correction. He smiled a bit, looking at the clouds. "Iv sailed this ship almost everyday I've been with tha' crew...feels like Iv done it more than tha' skipper 'imself...He's done it more though i'm sure...Haha! He taught me how to sail, come to think of it..."

"It's not like I wanna die," Khana said, "But it's better here than dying in a hole somewhere." He paused. "What do you think I'll learn here?" he asked Blade. "I'm curious, cause I don't see anywhere were I would be useful other than in a fight, and I don't I'm better than anyone else on the ship. So why am I here?"

"It's not like I wanna die," Khana said, "But it's better here than dying in a hole somewhere."

Was Khana saying if he wasn't on the ship he would probably end up dying in a hole? "Whatcha mean by that?" he asked. "Hard life, 'eh?"


"What do you think I'll learn here?" he asked Blade. "I'm curious, cause I don't see anywhere were I would be useful other than in a fight, and I don't I'm better than anyone else on the ship. So why am I here?"

"Ohohoho!" He snickered to himself. "Now that's for you to figure out...You obviously wanted on tha' ship for some reason...otherwise you wouldn't have accepted the Skipper's offer..." he spun around leaning on the wheel again. He pointed a claw at Khana. "You came on this ship for a reason. Ya' might not know why right now....might not even have a clue or even think you'll ever know why...but you'll figure it out... You'll still have to do what we tell you to until then though...."

Khana nodded. "Well, yeah. I didn't wanna grow up and die in the same place, which is what my parents wanted. They liked the quiet life. I couldn't stand it."

Khana looked at Blade. "I do have a reason for being here. I wanna learn things that I wouldn't without this. I just feel useless at the moment..."

Blade gave Khana a hefty pat on the back. "I'm sure you'll find something to do..." he said, stepping back to the wheel. He could feel the wind begin to pick up as it pressed against the ship causing drag. The sails were only halfway drawn, giving them just enough push for one beast to control the ship. But the wind was making it difficult. The lightning was picking up and the rain began to fall lightly on the deck making it a little more slippery.

There was a sudden gust of wind that nearly knocked Blade of course. They were gonna need all hand on board soon, but Blade was stubborn He didn't want to startle anybeast before he was sure he needed them. Sure enough, One-eye emerged from the stairs. "Whats goin' on matey!?" he asked in a raised tone. d**n...Blade thought. "What are doin' up!?" He asked the beast who was shielding his face from the rain. "A pot hit on my tha' head thanks to your turn! Do you need to alert tha' ship?" he asked, looking around at the waves begining to grow in size and strength as they crashed on the hull of the ship. "No,no! Its fine! Not yet!" he said having to raise his voice over the sound of all the elements together...The wind, The rain, The waves... He rolled his eyes. "Fine...Khana. Go ring the bell around the supports in the barracks down below! Step to it!" He said Turning the wheel hard to roll the massive ship over an incoming wave which crashed on the deck of the ship. One-eye held on to railing being nearly washed off. "Where ya want me sir!?" he shouted over the waves. Blade made another turn successfully dodging the next wave. "Not on deck, ya crip!" he shouted, quiet stressing. "Get below and start battening the gun hatches and check for leaks!" he ordered. "Aye!" One-eye acknowledged, ignoring the First mate's insult.

By that time, beast began emerging from the portholes and grabbing onto what they could and waited for orders...still no sign of the Skipper...
"Man tha' sails, Mates! Get anything movable below deck so it won't!"which was followed by several Ayes. Another wave was approaching. "Hold on mates!" he shouted as massive ship began climbing the wave.

Khana ran below deck, rushing to find the bells Blade had been talking about. He panicked when he realized he had no idea where they were. He ran into several guards, whom he alerted and asked for help on how to reach the bells. They pointed him in the right direction.When he reached the hall, he opened the door, and paused as he was met with complete darkness. He stumbled around in the dark, till he hit his head on something and a resounding ring went through his body. He reached out and found the rope to the bell, and pulled it down, making the halls ring with it's sound.

As he finished ringing the bells, he bolted for the door, and started heading back up onto the deck. Along the way he bumped into several otters, all of which were rushing around, still partially asleep. He ran for the deck and burst out of the door.

Suddenly, the nearest otter to Khana grabbed him by the collar and flung him down the stairs he had just burst from and duck inside himself and slammed the door. The wave crashed on the deck, knocking several otters overboard and the rest against objects knocking them out. The remaining otters scrambled to their feet and went back to he sails. The otter peered out the door and look down at Khana. "You tryin' ta' get yerself killed, kid?! Watchit!" The otter shouted down at him opening the door. "Report in to Blade, and be careful next time!" he said running to find a duty.

Khana nodded, making his way out the door. He stopped to help another otter get back on his feet, and continued to make his way up to were Blade was. He covered his eyes from the rain and looked to Blade.
"What can I do to help?" he asked at the top of his lungs.
